September Edition
Message from the Grand Knight
Brother Knights,
Happy Labor Day! Welcome to the September edition of the Cross and Compass. As we enter this new month, we welcome a season of change. The summer begins to fade, the air cools (thankfully), and many families shift into new routines with school, work, and parish life. For us as Knights of Columbus, this season is also a reminder to renew our commitment to service, fraternity, and faith.
We begin the month by observing Labor Day, a time to give thanks for the dignity of work and for the workers who provide for their families and communities. For us as Knights, Labor Day is a reminder of our mission to put our faith into action—not only through our jobs and vocations but also through our service to others. Just as St. Joseph worked faithfully as a carpenter and protector of the Holy Family, we too are called to sanctify our daily labor and use our talents in service to God and neighbor. As we leave the month of August, I would like to thank everyone for their help last month with the Food Drive and 5th Sunday Rosary. You all never cease to amaze me by your hard work and dedication. Thank You! You can tell our Council is gearing up for the season as you look at what’s planned.
Here are a few important events this month and beyond:
- Our Mother’s House Donations – We will be accepting donations at our next council meeting on September 10 to support mothers and children in need. John has requested diapers sizes 4, 5, and 6, twin comforters, bath mats, mouthwash, wash cloths, and bath towels.
- Blue Mass – September 14 – All Knights are invited to attend the 12:00 Mass. Show your support by wearing your Council shirts. This is one of our finest events of the year as we honor and thank our first responders. A lunch will follow in the Parish Center.
- Golf Tournament – September 20 – A great day of fellowship and fun while supporting the charitable works of our council, including Our Mother’s House, Pregnancy Solutions, and Venice Area Pregnancy Care Center.
- September Blood Drive – September 21 – The Big Red Bus will be at church from 8:00 a.m.–1:30 p.m. Donations help injured and ill patients in our community. You can register on our Council website.
- All Ministries CFA Raffle – Our biennial raffle begins this month. Tickets are $100 each with a top prize of $20,000! Please help with ticket sales and participation—proceeds support the Catholic Faith Appeal.
- St. Michael Statue Mass – September 29 – A statue of St. Michael the Archangel will be unveiled following the 10:00 am Mass. Please attend and wear your Council shirts to show your support. This unveiling also coincides with Archangel Micheal’s Day.
- Bingo – September 23 (test run) – Monthly bingo begins this fall! Starting in October, bingo will be the first Monday of each month. This is a fun night of fellowship while raising funds for our charitable causes.
Let us remember this is also a month of deep Catholic significance. On September 8 we celebrate the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, and on September 14 the Exaltation of the Holy Cross. Both remind us of our calling to live our faith with joy, sacrifice, and devotion.
Let us move forward this month with hearts open to God’s call, confident that through prayer, charity, and brotherhood, we can make a difference in our parish and community.
I look forward to seeing everyone at Mass or our next meeting on September 10th, beginning with the Rosary at 5:30 p.m., followed by dinner and our council meeting.
Vivat Jesus!
Rick Kuertz, Grand Knight
