April 2025 Letter from the Grand Knight

Created: Apr 01, 2025

Greetings Brother’s,

Welcome to the April edition of the Cross and Compass.  I hope this message finds you and your family doing well.  It is hard to believe we are in April already but you sure can tell as the weather is getting nicer and the season is beginning to change.

The Easter season has always brought me the greatest joy as it is the culmination of our Lenten journey and it brings a reality to life that Jesus died on the cross for a sinner like me.  It is almost hard to comprehend He would do this for us.  Just goes to show the Father’s love he has for each one of us.  I’ve often said, I’m very thankful that I converted and found the Catholic church as it was a turning point for my life.  I wasn’t exactly holy or Christian like in the first half of my life and I made a lot of mistakes.  I went to church and believed in God, but you really couldn’t tell it I guess is what I’m trying to say. When God saved me from cancer I chose to devote the back half/remainder of my life to him.  It definitely changed who I am and how I interact with the world around me.  If you haven’t  given your life all over to God yet, please consider doing so.  I am still a sinner, and I still try to take the steering wheel back, but I know Jesus is always there to guide and forgive me.  Heaven would not be possible for any of us had He not given up his life for us on that Good Friday.  This is why I love being a Knight as we have many opportunities to serve others and we are all committed to making our homes, community, and church a better place for all.  It is just amazing what we as a group can accomplish when we practice our principles Charity, Unity, and Fraternity.

March was a very busy month for us as we had a lot going on.  We had our Knights Breakfast, Fat Tuesday, Irish Night, Food Drive, Blood Drive, and 5th Sunday Rosary.  I want to thank everyone that helped put these events together and to everyone who helped make them successful.  I’d like to say thank you to Ron Bowes for securing the Irish Tenor for Irish Night.  It was a great event and everyone really enjoyed the show.  If we can book this again for next year, you really need to come if you didn’t make it, as it was an incredible performance.  I’m happy to report the Knights Breakfast and Irish Night put us over on our commitment to Father Jay.  WAY TO GO and THANK YOU!!!

April looks like it will be another great month for us as well.  We have our Knights Breakfast on Palm Sunday, April 13.  We are expecting a huge turnout for this breakfast so please sign up as we are going to need a lot of help.  We will also have our monthly Food Drive on April 26/27.  Also please plan to attend the Divine Mercy Sunday service at 2:45 on April 27th.  Please show your support by wearing your Council shirt.  The 4th Degree Color Corp has been called out for this event and will be participating as they have in years past.

Just as the season begins to change, so do things at our Council.  We are looking to fill our slate of officers for the next year.  If you feel called to be a part of the Officer team, please contact me or one of the Officer’s.  We have several spots open, and need every spot filled, we can further discuss at our next meeting.  It’s another great way to help out and meet a lot of great people.

Lastly, let us continue to stand united in faith and action. May this Easter season bring you and your families abundant blessings, renewed hope, and the strength to continue our mission of charity and service.

I look forward to seeing you at Mass or at our next meeting on April 10th.  Our meetings begin at 5:30 with the Rosary, followed by dinner and our meeting.  For those that may not be aware, we made some changes and our business meeting now begins right after dinner.  See you there.

Again, THANK YOU for your dedication, and may God bless each of you.

Vivat Jesus!

Rick Kuertz, Grand Knight
