(DailyEmailNews.com) – Calling on American Catholics to choose the “lesser evil” in the upcoming November elections, Pope Francis slammed both GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump and Kamala Harris for policies he described as “anti-life.”
Aboard his papal plane, Francis told journalists, “Both are against life, be it the one who kicks out migrants or the one who [supports] killing babies.”
Although the Pope did not name them directly, he referenced the candidates’ well-known positions.
The Pope reiterated that migration is a right according to Scripture and that failing to welcome a stranger constitutes a “grave sin.”
He previously criticized Trump’s proposal to build a border wall, labeling it “not Christian” in 2016.
Trump has outlined plans for what he says will be the largest mass deportation in U.S. history if he wins re-election.
He also intends to pause the refugee program and block entries from Muslim-majority countries.
Additionally, Trump wants to restore the “Remain in Mexico” policy, which forces asylum seekers to remain in Mexico during U.S. immigration proceedings.
In the first presidential debate, Trump accused Harris of allowing “millions of people” from “prisons and jails…mental institutions and insane asylums” into the U.S., who then take jobs from African Americans, Hispanics and union workers.
He also said during the debate that Haitian illegals in Springfield, Ohio, are eating local pets.
Francis addressed abortion during his press conference, stating that “to have an abortion is to ‘kill a human being.'”
He emphasized, “You may like the word or not, but it’s killing. We have to see this clearly.”
His comments have been seen as a direct jab at Harris, who seeks to enact legislation to protect abortion rights nationwide if elected.
Meanwhile, Trump suggests leaving abortion laws to individual states following the reversal of Roe v. Wade, though he recently commented that Florida’s six-week abortion ban seems too restrictive.
When asked how American Catholics should vote, Francis advised, “One should vote, and choose the lesser evil,” leaving it to individuals to determine their stance.
“Who is the lesser evil, the woman or man? I don’t know. Everyone in their conscience should think and do it,” he concluded.
The U.S. bishops conference has declared abortion the “preeminent priority” for American Catholic voters this election cycle.
