Welcome to the July issue of Cross & Compass,
On Saturday July 4th our country celebrate the 250th anniversary of our Independence. The Knights of Columbus embodies the four principles of Charity, Unity, Fraternity & Patriotism. Earlier this year the Knights of Columbus celebrated the 125th anniversary of the Fourth Degree (Patriotism) at the St. Patrick’s Cathedral in New York City.
The Catholic Church honors the Saints Martha, Mary, and Lazarus on July 29th. You may know that Martha, Mary, and Lazarus were siblings. When reading the Gospels, I was amazed of their friendship with Jesus.
You may recall that “Jesus wept” (Jn 11:35) before Lazarus came out of the tomb. In another part of the Gospel Jesus says to Martha; “Martha, Martha you are worried and distracted by many things; but only one thing is necessary (LK 10:41-42) when Mary sat talking with Jesus rather than helping around their house. For me, these Gospel readings illustrate the humanness of Jesus and the Saints Lazurus, Mary & Martha.
Our Circle of Life Golf Tournament is scheduled for September 25th at Plantation Golf & Country Golf Club. Please register for a foursome online or sign-up to help at the Golf Tournament.
If you are not golfing, please go online to make a sponsorship contribution to one of the three Circle of Life charities (1) Pregnancy Solutions, (2) Venice Area Pregnancy Care Center or (3) Catholic Charities Our Mothers House.
Please remember dues for Knight of Columbus Council 9924 are due July 1st. You can log onto our website kofc9924.org to pay your dues.
