Many Battles Ahead
By Ray Ross
We can all take a victory lap now that Amendment #4 was defeated. ThatÂ’s the good news. However, 57.14% of Florida voters voted to allow abortion right up to 24 weeks and up until birth with the approval of a healthcare worker. In Sarasota County the vote was 159,896 yes and 113,194 no.
I found these results shocking and highly disappointing. After 50 years of Roe v. Wade it is apparent that for most Americans abortion is no big deal.
It is clear we are losing the sanctity of life education battle. For 50 years, Americans, especially women, have been indoctrinated with the mantra “my body, my choice".
With the Trump Administration there is hope, but weÂ’re not going to be able to turn things around with a frontal attack.
Trump backed off from his solid pro-life position this time around and pushed abortion decisions to the states while also saying he fully supported In Virto Fertilization (IVF) which the Catholic Church opposes.
His Health Czar, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. was pro-choice when he initially ran as a Democrat and then backed off when he left the Democratic Party.
To move forward the pro-life movement will need tactical victories through cuts in spending and regulations protecting the health of mothers and the unborn.
Trump wants to cut excessive government spending, and I expect the Administration to end the federal funding of Planned Parenthood. That will be huge and should lead to the closing of numerous abortion clinics due to lack of funding.
Another step would be to restrict the chemical abortion pill mills. Kennedy’s support here will be key. Under the Biden Administration, the pill mills have been given free rein to go around any doctor or healthcare involvement. There are multiple cases of deaths by women who have taken the abortion pill without understanding the risk. For example, there are women who have taken an abortion pill without knowing they had an ectopic pregnancy.
Restricting the unregulated pill mills with regulations that protect mothers and the unborn (such as requiring an in-person screening) would further protect mothers and the unborn as well as starting a cultural change that abortion is unacceptable and killing the unborn is a big deal. There is much work still to be done.
