Two years ago in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, the Supreme Court reversed Roe v. Wade and ruled that the “constitution makes no reference to abortion, and no such right is implicitly protected by constitutional provision….” The Court put it back on the people of each state to determine any limits on abortion. In a report developed by the Life and Family Initiative which is part of the Ethics and Public Policy Center, entitled Two Years After Dobbs – State Action to Expand Support for Moms, Babies and Families, Patrick T. Brown et al state that 14 states now fully protect the unborn (except when a mother’s life is in danger) and another 7 states have passed protections for the unborn that would not have been possible under Roe v. Wade -

The authors detail every state that has laws protecting the unborn have also added laws providing support for pregnant and new mothers and their babies. These states get it, As a society, we have to do more that convince a mother to not abort her child, we have to continue our support for the mom, the baby and the family once the baby is born. Florida is a leader in this regard, but only 22 of the 50 states are following in Florida’s footsteps. Here’s what the report finds:
- “22 of these 23 states have extended Medicaid coverage, increasing the length of time a postpartum woman receives medical care from 60 days to one year
- 16 states took direct action to expand child care choices, from expanding subsidies to streamlining regulatory barriers for child care providers
- 14 states introduced or expanded programs that provide targeted, material assistance to pregnant women whether directly or by working through pregnancy resource centers
- 13 states increased eligibility for safety net services, from expanding income eligibility thresholds for assistance to eliminating befit caps based on family size
- 11 states acted to expand access to or coverage of health services for women, such as mammograms or screening for postpartum depression
- 9 states introduced or expanded paid parental leave for state employees, on top of the many states that had already done so prior to the Dobbs decision.”
In two short years Dobbs has been a great success. Tens of thousands of babies have been saved. Pregnant and new mothers are receiving help they never had before. Yet, the left is doubling down on their efforts to reverse Dobbs. As we know, here in Florida Amendment 4, if approved, will change the Florida Constitution and allow for abortions at any time and for any reason up until birth. It is evil and must NOT pass.
